Week In Review

* Tuesday was the MLB All-Star Game. I stayed up late and watched all 15 innings. Unfortunately the junior circuit won again (the NL's last win was in 1996) but that was an amazing game with four extra-inning outs at the plate and the game winner was a split-second play too.

* Maegan just completed her second and final week at horse camp. Unlike last month, I was able to attend her presentation at the end of the week. Here are a few photos, and a link to a short video.

Here's Maegan the horse-whisperer gracefully persuading her animal to the mounting area.

Maegan gives her horse a hug while waiting her turn.

Show time.

* On my way to see Maegan at horse camp, my tire completely blew out at 65 MPH. I had to change my tire on the shoulder of I-485, but thanks to my NASCAR-like pit stop, I wasn't even late for Maegan's show.

* We have yet another baby bird on our lawn. He's been down for 48 hours now. The momma bird has been nearby but we've not seen her actually go up to the baby. I keep flagging off the area of the front lawn he's in so nobody steps on him.

* And here are two more photos from the past week: Patty playing bubbles with Darah, then finger painting.

Despite the worldwide attention, I did not deliver the Brangelina twins!

Worst School Photos Ever

We just got proofs back from Maegan's fourth grade school photos and they are literally the worst school photos ever taken. Maegan looks fine in them, or at least she would have looked fine if you could actually see her in the photos.

Check them out. I did not alter these photos at all. These are the actual proofs we got back, with the entire top half of Maegan's head cut completely off. WTF? Was anybody actually looking through the view finder?

Sure, I'll buy a set of these photos... not.

Peter Griffin pitching for Subway

This week, Subway restaurants began a promotional campaign featuring The Family Guy's Peter Griffin. The television commercial feature Peter reading a poetic ode to Subway Sandwiches, and ends with Subway's trademark "Eat Fresh".

Am I the only one who finds this hilarious that Subway, the restaurant that touts themselves as the healthy alternative to fast food for people who want to lose weight, chose the absolute fattest character on television as their pitchman?

(I had a video clip of Peter Griffin having his own orbit embedded here, but it is no longer available)

Groovy Threads

Last week my sister forwarded me a hilarious email about 1977 fashions in a JC Penney catalog. It took me a while until I had a chance to track down the original source of the email, but here it is. Enjoy it. As my sister noted, this email (originally a blog post) could easily be titled "How to get your ass kicked in 1977."

Dramatic Prairie Dog

Happy Friday with the famous "Dramaitic Prairie Dog"

Of course, this wouldn't be a worldwide viral video phenomenon if there weren't dozens of parody responses. Here are links to a few of the best.
P.S. Here's a link to the original video clip from a Japanese gameshow.

What Have I Started?

A little over 24 hours ago I blogged about making the family into characters from The Simpsons.

Then our friend since high school, Dee, prompted me to make a version of her from the late 80's.

Then I read on Chris Rooney's blog that he liked what I did and duplicated my process of Simpsonizing himself and Photoshopping it into a real photo. (His is hilarious because unlike my beach shot, you can totally buy the visual perspective of his home office background.)

Then the domino effect continued as one of Chris' regular blog readers was inspired to copy what Chris had done and post it on his blog.

It's like Six Degrees of Separation. Where will the chain end? Ya gotta love the power of blogging to help people around the world all waste their time in the same stupid ways.

If We Were The Simpsons

The Simpsons Movie just relaunched their official website. Half of the site is annoyingly under construction but you are able to make your own custom Simpsons character. Maegan wanted to make herself into a Simpsons character, so I Simpsonized the entire family (and then PhotoShopped it more).

Curious GWB: George Bush Raps

This video is over a year old but still funny. Well produced too.

Cat Nap at Shea

Before Sunday nights game between the Mets and Yankees at Shea, a groundskeeper was setting up the bullpen. He slammed down a rolled up mat, then kicked it to unroll it, when out popped a tiny kitten that had been hiding inside. Great video. (The kitten seems to be okay.)

Note: It was a black cat and the Mets lost that game.

While I was searching for that video clip online via Digg, I came across an interesting story about an ambidextrous college pitcher for Creighton University. Even more odd than the thought of a pitcher who can pitch with either arm, is the fact that Louisville Slugger actually manufactures an ambidextrous glove. Why?

Strong Baby

This is a three part post.

1) This is Strong Bad from the popular Homestar Runner internet cartoons. (If you're unfamiliar with Strong Bad click here and he'll introduce himself to you.)

2) This is the last sonogram image of the new baby.

3) Yes, my wife is going to kick my ass now.

A Costly Vote

The 1918 Inverted Jenny stamp is the most famous rare-stamp in the world. Just one of these stamps can fetch up to $200,000 at auction. Even non-stamp collectors are familiar with the stamp which contains the image of a World War I bi-plane mistakenly printed upside-down - but an unknown voter in Florida isn't one of them.

A Broward County election official noticed that an absentee vote ballot was mailed using the extremely valuable Inverted Jenny stamp. This news immediately made me recall the movie "Brewster's Millions" in which Richard Pryor's character bought an Inverted Jenny only to use the stamp to mail a postcard to intentionally waste his money.

The funniest part of this story isn't the amazing fact that somebody actually used an Inverted Jenny to mail their absentee ballot, but because they forgot to put their name on their ballot and their vote wasn't even counted anyway! Of course this just further supports the notion that Broward County, Florida residents can't seem to grasp the voting process. It was this same county in 2000 in which tens of thousands of voters mistakenly voted for Pat Buchanan due to the infamous Butterfly Ballots.

Treadmill Dancing

I know I'm behind the times but I just stumbled upon this video posted on somebody's blog. Apparently it's been popular around the internet for the past six weeks. Very impressive and original choreography. Given the poor production quality of this video I originally thought this was just some stupid human trick, but this is a real music video by a band I've never heard of called OK Go. Well their idea to spread their music through an interesting viral video worked on me because other than the fact that I enjoyed the video, I also like the music and I may see what else they've got.

This video also remindes me of another viral video I like which featured "dancing": Where The Hell Is Matt.

The Design Curve

I found this blog post which explains the inverse correlation between the number of people involved in a design and the quality of the end result. This post is specifically about web design but it can easily be applied to any creative work. Click here to read the entire post.

Most Stupidest Billboard Ever

This is one of several billboards put up as part of a promotional campaign by WCNC-TV, the NBC affiliate in Charlotte, NC. They are promoting the accuracy of their newscast's weather with the following text:
"It's not that they are wronger... We're just righter."

P.S. Incase you're wondering... No, they don't have any weather talent named Righter.
